134 Grave Clothes

Unbind him, let him go.

How ridiculous would it be if Jesus did not say this when Lazarus came out of the tomb? What if as a result Lazarus kept his grave clothes on and hobbled around the rest of his life incumbered by the reminder of his previous life and death. It would be silly to stay bound tightly by the restrictions of death when you have been given new life. When we are given new life are we still bound by the worldly restrictions as if we were still spiritually dead? If we accept and live for something bigger than this physical life then why do we still place such a grave importance on our professional ambitions? Our worldly qualifications? Our sports? Our entertainment? Our physical health and life? These things are the grave clothes of our previous life. If we were truly to be unbound from these things that we still value so much, then I suspect it is what would cultivate good soil. Good soil for God to produce much fruit.
