2 Peter 1:10 If I were to join a basketball team, how valuable would I be to the team if my primary purpose in joining, were to get a jersey. I didn't want to play in the games or participate in practice, but instead I was satisfied watching while I sat on the sidelines. What if I simply relished seeing my name in the roster knowing that I was a part of the team. Contempt would breed amongst your teammates. Your coach would be frustrated. At best the team could do without you, but at worst you may be taking the place of someone who does want to participate. By not practicing, by not proving your worth by giving it your all, you are hurting your team. If the goal is winning, then you might cause the opposite. If the goal is growth your teammates might lack for your absence in practice. In reality the stakes are much higher. If we call ourselves Christian and fail to give it our all, eternity is on the line. At best, it may be just ourselves on the line, but at worst it could mean eternity for those God planned for us to love.
