73 Seek His Kingdom

Matthew 6:33

Seek first His kingdom.

More often than not, we build our own kingdom alongside God's kingdom instead of fully making our own hearts intent to build for God. We seek promotion at work so that we can afford that second home. We make sure those around us know our accomplishments and qualifications so that they will value us. We give out of surplus rather than giving when it hurts. Do we really believe that God will provide the things we need if we seek his kingdom first? It seems like at best we reserve a portion of time to build His kingdom and then put it aside to build our own. And yet it is a balance, work must be done, food must be eaten, water drunk and physical life goes on. How can we seek his kingdom even in these things? We can. We find opportunity to shine in our work, not for our own glory, but to say yes I did that with excellence because the god I serve asks me to and enables excellence. We find opportunity sharing a meal in fellowship with someone hungry or even just lonely. When we seek his kingdom first, we seek to use the circumstances around us as opportunities rather than obstacles.
