What is it, in the realm of sports, that captures our hearts and minds? Is it some kind of inherent need to be a part of a team? A greater cause, whether we are fans or participants. Is it the choice to battle, to grow ourselves stronger or better? Do we simply wish for a banner to raise to let those around us know for whom we stand and for who we fight for? Is it a thrill of competition, the testing of our sand to know how we measure up? It seems as though we have taken yet another thing that is good, and made it a god instead of God himself. It seems like the many desires partly fulfilled by sports are also things that would be fulfilled by a devoted life to God. Which is more lasting? A talented high school career in sports that puffs up the pride of a youth, only to be met by the reality of the world that chews and spits out a young man who ends up on the jail roster time and again. Or a humble partnership with an unconquerable God. One that orchestrates plays and moves outside of time and values every action of His soldier as critical to the kingdom. The reward of men is fading and leads to regret, but the esteem and value offered by the God that creates, is lasting and leads to reward for beyond what can be imagined.
