My son who is six nearing seven is a wonderful boy of whom I am proud. I've had this train of thought before, but was reminded this morning as I had my wardrobe planned for me. He just got a new shirt at a garage sale that he was excited about. He decided he'd wear it the first chance he would get this coming Sunday. He doesn't miss much and he knew I had a shirt that was similar. He asked if I would wear mine so we could match. I did. It is natural for a young son or daughter to want to be like their parent. It is how God designed us to grow. Sometimes it is good habits we pick up, sometimes it might be bad ones, but the desire to imitate the ones we love is instinctual. Our spiritual rebirth places us squarely back into the infant stage of spiritual growth. We start all over with God. Whatever our physical age when we accept God's gift, we end up with a very similar maturing that we must go through to grow into who we were designed to be. As we grow in our walk with God, one thing I think we should hold onto is that simple childlike desire to emulate our heavenly father. To love the things that He loves. To desire the things that He desires. To match Him. To be like Him, the way a child, who loves their parent, longs to be like them.
