32 Prayer

I came home from being away for a few days. As I arrived and turned off the engine, out came my kids out of the house to greet me. Like often happens I was inundated with news. From the latest moves learned in taekwondo to how voice lessons went and as far as who did what and needed to be taddled on. My children had much to share with me.

This question came up on this trip, is prayer important? If so, in what ways and how do we stress it's importance to those around us. My children love me and I them. Our relationship is not perfect, but it is a relationship. My kids could not wait to share the goings on in their life and I was excited to hear about it. I love their excitement and I share in their grief. I want to help them in their desires and goals, but also for them to walk in the right way. This struck me as a picture of prayer. A relationship with God, without prayer, is not a relationship at all. There is no interaction, there is no experience, in fact it leads to a place of religion instead. Which is what Jesus came to reject. Following a book of rules leads to legalism. Studying a book to discover the heart of a loving God and then walking with Him in relationship is what Jesus came to make possible.
