Hebrews 4:12
It is easy to leave a dark cave alone. It may be riddled with snakes. It might have a horrible smell from something dead that was trapped in it. It might lack the necessary air to breathe or just be stale. It might contain hidden cracks and pits that pose risk to it's entry or exit. It's wandering nature might lead to confusion and dismay. But more often than not we think it is easier to ignore it. If we pretend it's not there it will just go away. Our sinful hearts are this cave. We cover our darkness with distractions, with shiny objects, even with good things given by God, but in the end we often don't address what is in front of us. The darkness. God's word holds power, yes it holds power to uncover the darkness of our hearts, but it also holds power to vanquish it. To root out the slithering critters that infest. To light up the darkness, to show what is ahead so we don't stumble and fall. The power it holds gives true life. Sometimes it is easy to think it luminates our path, but our path remains deep in the cave, restricted by walls, by law. The truth is that when we believe what Jesus says, He has much more for us. The freedom He brings is as though we find the surface and a new light dawns on our face as we leave the cave. The freedom He brings is no longer bound by rock walls, but instead He meets us at the door of the cave. Ready to walk with us in the light, in the majesty of all creation.
