2 Corinthians 3:16
2 Corinthians 4:4
A solar eclipse is an unusual thing. It is a thing many people might spend a lifetime and not see. Even if you are in the right place at the right time, all it takes to miss it are some clouds.
What are the clouds that veil our eyes to God's great work? Unbelief is one. If we don't believe there is an eclipse happening behind the clouds there is no need to change anything. If we do not believe, then we simply flow through life tossed about without any awareness of cause or purpose. Or at very least our purpose becomes the chase after fleeting things. Knowledge is a barrier to seeing God's great work. We may calculate that there will be an eclipse, but our knowledge still cannot move the clouds out of the way to witness it. Human effort is a barrier. It is possible for people to chase all over looking for the prime location to see an eclipse, but still receive no guarantee of sunny skies.
It pleased God to reveal these things to the childlike and hide them from the wise. Jesus himself says He came to open the eyes of the blind, not those who think they can see.
How much of seeing spiritual truth or God's mighty work comes when a person realizes their blindness? How much awareness comes from an accurate account of our smallness and God's magnitude? A child is under no false notion of wisdom, but instead approaches life with a sense of wonder and awe, looking to discover new things around each corner. Jesus said if you do not believe like a child you will not enter His kingdom. Be childlike.
