192 Contempt for Misfortune

Job 12:5

"Those at ease have contempt for misfortune."

This was true of Jobs friends. This was true of a rich young man who approached Jesus. This was true of Peter as he reacted to Jesus revealing what must happen in Jerusalem. This is true of us today.

I could never do that. I could never live there. How dare we say such things and call ourselves children of the Most High God. Do we have His heart? Have we accepted His gift? What is He not capable of? Is it really better to live in riches with little opportunity for faith or in desperate times with many opportunities to watch God work. If God disciplines those He loves, then shouldn't we crave the refining fire? If it is the poor that God has chosen to be rich in faith then shouldn't we secretly hate tangible blessings. If we believe God's word that it is more blessing to give them to receive or that we should store up our treasures in heaven, then why are we not desperate to do so. It seems as though there are discrepancies between what we say we believe and what we do. It might not be time wasted to ask the Holy Spirit to examine our hearts. The gracious God I know has forgiven my wasted time and gives opportunity till the last breath.
