19 God's Gentle Direction

I was paddling a canoe with some kids the other day and our eyes were fixed forward. A couple of the kids each had a paddle and in their eyes, they were paddling wonderously. Their eyes were forward and they were traveling straight and smoothly. In their minds they were doing just fine on their own. When things are going well, we're paddling hard, making forward and straight progress, there is little need to look behind us. But if we did we might see the father behind us with an oar in the water, smiling and gently guiding our direction.
