174 Rebar

This isn't something that I hear asked every day, but don't you just love rebar!? It's hidden deep in concrete and cannot be seen, but without it, what is built will crumble and crack. If two foundations are made. One with rebar and one without, they can be made to look exactly the same from outward appearances, but one will crumble and one will not. The disciples we raise in our churches are like foundations without rebar. We strive to look right in every way but lack the metal that makes us resilient. Instead of going out to conquer oppression we protect ourselves from any kind of danger or discomfort that would shake our frail foundations to pieces. Jesus called his disciples into wholehearted following, until we learn how to do the same in our American culture we will continue to live in timid foreboding of the coming earthquake that will level us all.
