161 Fruit Trees

Our lives are like a fruit tree.  A seed drops to the ground and the magic of germination happens.  There is a period of rapid growth to put down roots into the soil to reach the nutrients that are needed.  A tree does little to put the nutrients in the soil or to bring the rain, but grows as much as possible while it can.  Some years are plentiful, some not so much.

Sometimes I catch myself thinking it is the years of plenty, of comfort and ease, that cause the most spiritual growth, but I am wrong.  It is those years of dusty, dry, blowing wind, that cause the growth we need.  The wind makes us dig our roots deeper so our foundation and capacity for growth are all the greater.  An awareness of the things we lack causes a deeper dependence on our Creator.  It is those seasons of scarcity and turmoil that prepare us for the season of plenty.  The rain returns and our leaves as well.  This season of bounty is now upon us and we bask in the beauty of the blossoms that soon will become fruit.  This blessing, this good gift from our Creator shouts praise to Him.  Without the turmoil, stress, and drought, our roots would be shallow, and our minds would be self focused.  Because as this fruit matures we realize one thing.  This fruit is meant not for us only to enjoy.  It's meant to also be a blessing to those around us.  This season of plenty, like all things, was timed to perfection to offer our fruit to our Creator.  For His good purpose.
