Kids from their earliest age are testing, reaching, and growing. At some point in the quest to adulthood we stop and are satisfied. If God is infinite then it doesn't make sense to do so. Growing happens at all ages. When we choose to not exercise our faith, a state of un-health ensues. We exercise and grow our faith by trying to stand when we only can crawl. We take a step when we only can stand. We run and jump when we only can walk. Each is a new experience, laced with fear of the unknown, but also the opportunity to experience and enjoy an infinite God.
